The logistics sector experienced a slight contraction in 2016 due to developments in Russia and Syria, as well as the tightening of EU border crossings. The sector ended 2016 with a modest downturn caused by the political crisis with Russia, conflict along Turkey’s southern border, foreign exchange volatility, and the EU’s tougher border policies due to the refugee influx. With continuing uncertainties, the sector is expected to follow a similar trend in 2017.
The Mersin Regional Working Group Meeting was held on March 23, 2017. During the meeting, Kerem İmrak (İmsan Group) was elected as the Chairman of the Working Group, Ethem Anşin (Fırat Anşin) as the First Vice Chairman, and Erkan Yurteri (Levante & Botros) as the Second Vice Chairman. The meeting addressed the draft of the Road Transport Regulation published by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, as well as the delays caused by X-ray inspections at the Habur Customs Gate, and the relevant actions taken by our Association in this context.
As of today (April 25, 2017), it has become mandatory to submit an Entry Pre-Declaration electronically to the customs administration for all vehicles entering our country with a TIR Carnet. It has been observed that many vehicles using a TIR Carnet and entering through our border gates have not submitted the Pre-Declaration. These vehicles are expected to cause additional congestion and delays at the border checkpoints.
