İMS Lojistik Overseas Sales Manager Serhat İmrak explained the sector to students of Havajet Private Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. İmrak said, “Logistics is a commercial field where connections with all countries are materialized and it is more than just trade.”
İMS Lojistik Overseas Sales Manager Serhat İmrak met with students of Havajet Private Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School as part of a social responsibility project. The talk, held in the conference hall of the school located in Menemen, was also attended by School Principal Bülent Karakuş and teachers. İmrak shared his journey in the logistics sector and explained to the youth the global opportunities in logistics.
‘YOU NEED TO LOVE YOUR PROFESSION’
İmrak, stating that the first condition for success in the logistics sector is to love the profession, said, “I didn’t think about the profession at first. I graduated from a regular high school and frankly, I was considering studying law. Later, I graduated from Okan University’s International Logistics Department and fell in love with the profession. It has a very unique dynamism. I am currently doing my master's at the same university. I want to emphasize that I really enjoy the profession.”
‘A DYNAMIC PROFESSION’
İmrak stated that the logistics sector is actually a suitable field for young people, saying, “If you like action, you will like this profession too. Because you will be following all regions of the world. You will be intertwined with many different cultures. You will use the communication tools of our era well, and your work will progress accordingly.”
Noting that the profession requires sociability and skills, İmrak said, “First of all, you need to be proficient in English. But in this era, that is no longer enough. I think you should also turn to Spanish and Arabic. Arabic is a very important language for the region we are in. If you become multilingual, you become a citizen of the world. But the most important condition to stay in the sector is to know English.”
THE STATE OF THE LEGAL FIELD
Answering questions from students, İmrak stated that the sector has a strong connection with international law knowledge, saying, “Transporting goods from very different countries around the world also requires a certain level of legal knowledge. As a company, we already work with a highly legally equipped team; but it is also necessary to have general legal knowledge. Most importantly, you need to follow the job closely.”
WE WORK WITH 146 COUNTRIES
İmrak stated that they work with 146 countries worldwide and said, “With our reliable agent network in 146 countries, we provide integrated Door To Door deliveries via road, sea, and air transport. This requires internal tracking, and we are very successful in this regard. I want to return to the language issue here. Knowing English is a factor that opens doors for you in the sector from different countries.”
İmrak, emphasizing that global developments affect the entire sector, stated, “Political and social developments as a whole impact the sector. As a company, despite all kinds of difficulties, we achieved success by not abandoning the field we operate in. For example, when I mention 146 countries, Iraq remains the most challenging country for us and one of the countries we do the most business with. Because we insisted on maintaining a presence in that region after the war. We showed the same attitude towards Afghanistan. This brought success.”
İmrak stated that Turkey is making significant progress day by day, especially in air transportation, saying, “Turkey has practically become an air hub in the region. Therefore, the importance of your school is also increasing. Turkey will reach a much better position in air transportation. Evaluate the vocational training you receive from this perspective as well. As a company, we also value air transportation, which constitutes an important part of our business volume.”
PAY ATTENTION TO SUCCESS AT SCHOOL
İmrak shared his views with the students regarding their school performance, saying, “It is important to intern at a good company. That company could be us. However, wherever you go, your success at school will be taken into consideration. Therefore, you need to strive to be successful students at school. Of course, I should also say that ultimately, what matters most is your practical experience in the field. For example, if your practice during an internship is not very good, your success at school won’t mean much. It is essential to learn the field without neglecting school and lessons.”
A PROFESSION WITH ADVANTAGES
Answering students' questions about earnings in the sector, İmrak stated, “There is no limit to salary in the sector. Of course, this depends on your qualifications and the effort you put in. As long as you are a sector employee with the qualities we mentioned, you will stay in this profession and advance.”
İmrak explained that they especially care about directing young people to the profession, saying, “We try to visit educational institutions as much as possible and explain the sector. As we said, logistics is actually a very suitable sector for young people. Because young people can follow developments much more closely and grasp them.”
School Principal Bülent Karakuş also emphasized the importance of getting to know the sector and said: “What you learn and hear from our valuable guest here is very important. We value your meeting with people who come from within the profession. From now on, follow the companies that serve in our city and Turkey. Keep a close eye on developments in the sector and observe what is being done. We will continue working to ensure that you, our students, receive a healthy vocational education at every stage, including internships.”
At the end of the event, Serhat İmrak and the students took a photo together. School Principal Karakuş also presented flowers to İmrak on behalf of the school administration.
